The genus is Populus, which includes the Cottonwoods, Aspens and Poplars. The seeds of these trees are attached to balls of "fluff" which are disseminated by the winds. We have a large Cottonwood in our back yard here in Oklahoma and the fluff flies for a month! ha Neighbors love us!
